"Solar power is within reach of more Californians than ever"

Edison International

October Is Solar Energy Month!

"October is Solar Energy Month throughout California. The sun is an important source of cleaner, renewable electricity, and as a national leader in providing renewable energy to homes and businesses, we’re dedicated to it.

Solar panel systems are now installed and generating power on top of shopping malls, carports, undeveloped land, and of course, the roofs of homes. More than 13,000 homeowners in our region are going solar at home, and there’s never been a better time to take advantage of favorable incentives and rebates. Learn more.

In the sun-drenched Inland Empire, we’re building large-scale solar stations on warehouse rooftops, and distributing the cleaner energy directly to nearby households and businesses. In the next few years, these rooftop solar arrays will generate enough electricity to power an average of 160,000 homes – while protecting our environment from carbon emissions.
Solar power is within reach of more Californians than ever.

A public housing community in Riverside County is going solar this month, and as a result, residents’ electricity bills will shrink along with their carbon footprints. Also this month, our employee volunteers will help construct a solar generating system at the home of a low-income Los Angeles County family.

California’s plentiful sunshine is a valuable natural resource, and converting it into solar energy is a smart way to live more sustainably. During Solar Energy Month, and all year round, we encourage you to learn more about solar power and how you can put the sun to work for you."

Ghost Town Has Solar!

If you look at this picture you can see partial solar installs. These buildings are 150 years old, and still holding strong! There are about 12 residence during the summer, and 1 year round. The solar provides just enough energy to keep the cost of living there very low!

"Silver City is a ghost town in Owyhee CountyIdahoUnited States. At its height in the 1880s it wasgold and silver mining town with a population of around 2,500 and approximately 75 businesses. Silver City served as county seat of Owyhee County from 1867 to 1934. Today, the town has about 70 standing buildings, all of which are privately owned. Many of the owners are third- or fourth-generation descendants of the original miners. There are a handful of small businesses, but no gas or service stations."
"Silver City was founded in 1864 soon after silver was discovered at nearby War Eagle Mountain. The settlement grew quickly and was soon considered one of the major cities in Idaho Territory. The first daily newspaper and telegraph office in Idaho Territory were established in Silver City. The town was also among the first places in present-day Idaho to receive electric and telephone service."

The white house gets solar!

This isn't the first time though, Jimmy Carter installed 32 solar panels (1979), but when Ronald Reagan was elected he took them down to clean them (1986), and never placed them back. Lets hope Obama keeps them up.

“This project reflects President Obama’s strong commitment to U.S. leadership in solar energy and the jobs it will create here at home,” Chu said in a written statement released by the Energy Department. “Deploying solar energy technologies across the country will help America lead the global economy for years to come.”

"Today, we’re taking another important step. As we move towards a clean energy economy, the White House will lead by example. I’m pleased to announce that by the end of this Spring there will be solar panels that convert sunlight into electricity and a solar water heater on the roof of the White House. It’s been a long time since we’ve had them up there,'' Secretary Chu said at the conference this morning.
